R-22 Phaseout ALERT Effective January 1, 2020

R-22 is a refrigerant that has been most commonly used in air conditioning equipment manufactured before 2020. Because R-22 depletes the ozone layer, the EPA limited production and import of R-22 in 2010. In 2020, R-22 will no longer be produced or imported and the manufacture of new air conditioning systems using R-22 have been banned in the U.S.A. After 2020, only recovered, recycled, or reclaimed supplies of R-22 will be available. The R-22 phaseout period provides time to switch to new air conditioning systems that use ozone-friendly refrigerants. In the future, R-22 supplies will be even more limited and costs to service equipment with R-22 will rise.
